Lisset Gonzalez HanewiczTrial Attorney

I am a former State and Federal prosecutor and insurance defense attorney.  I have been on the other side.  I know how the other side thinks and I have tried over 40 cases to verdict in Federal and State court, criminal and civil.  As a result, I have the experience to provide you the legal representation you deserve.

I know how to defend your rights in the criminal system.  I served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Florida, investigating and prosecuting felony cases including narcotics, firearms, fraud, child exploitation, sex trafficking and immigration violations. I also served as an Assistant State Attorney with the Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office investigating and prosecuting felony and misdemeanor cases involving murder (including First Degree), robbery, sexual battery, capital sexual battery, crimes against children, drugs, firearms, theft, fraud, driving under the influence, and domestic battery.  I was the lead prosecuting attorney in a high-profile murder case, which was telecast live on TrueTv’s “In Session” (formerly Court TV).  The case garnered national attention and was featured on ABC’s 20/20, Dateline NBC, CNN and Oxygen Network’s Snapped.

I also know how to fight for your rights if you have been injured.  After my career as a prosecutor, I worked at a large law firm where insurance companies hired us to defend personal injury lawsuits against corporations and individuals.  I handled cases from slip and falls to wrongful deaths.  During this transition, I gained significant experience evaluating the value of a personal injury claim.  I know the aspects of a case that resonate with insurance companies and mediators, which is important in settlement negotiations. If a settlement cannot be reached through negotiation, I am prepared to try your case before a jury.  Unlike criminal court,  not many civil cases make it to trial, which means few civil attorneys have the opportunity to try a case before a jury.  An attorney who is capable and effective in trial is a factor which will affect the insurance company’s evaluation of your case.  I have gone to trial in criminal and civil court.

I graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2004. While in law school, I was a member of the UF International Moot Court Team competing in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition held in Vienna, Austria.  After my term as a team member, I was appointed the student chair and led the team into the Top 16 out of 135 competing teams.  I also served as the Student Works Executive Editor for the University of Florida Journal of Law and Policy.   I earned book awards (top of the class) in trial practice and legal drafting.  An internship at the Third District Court of Appeals with The Honorable Melvia B. Green allowed me to understand the issues that are important to appellate judges.  Prior to entering law school, I gained significant experience in the legal field as a paralegal for a national bank and as a legal assistant in various civil litigation firms.

You want an attorney who is an experienced and effective advocate.  Let me make your case.
